AI is never alone — how AI lives inside a system
Every AI model sits inside a sociotechnical system of people, data and rules. Why you can't judge AI in isolation. For Class 7.

Railway network
An AI scheduling trains is like one signal operator in a giant railway network. The signal operator matters, but the trains, tracks, ticketing staff, passengers, and Railway Board rules are all part of the same system — change any one of them and the operator's job changes completely.
Bazaar / market
Think of an AI pricing engine as the shopkeeper's calculator in a busy bazaar. The calculator gives a number, but the shopkeeper, the supplier's wholesale price, the local mela season, and customers haggling all shape what price actually gets charged.
Every Dhee Learning session for this concept follows three stages. We share the questions Dhee actually asks, so you can hear what a session sounds like.
Stage 1 — Surface
When a food delivery app suggests a restaurant to you, do you think the AI is doing that job alone — or is something bigger happening behind the scenes?
Rote answer
"The AI uses data to suggest restaurants."
Understood
"The AI is just one part — there are also restaurant owners who pay for placement, customers who rate, delivery riders whose availability affects what's shown, and rules the platform sets. They all interact."
Stage 2 — Reasoning
If the AI in a food app suddenly starts recommending only expensive restaurants, what parts of the system — not just the AI — would you investigate to find out why?
Follow-up Dhee may use: Imagine the AI is a chef in a huge kitchen. Who else is in that kitchen, and who decides what recipe the chef follows?
Stage 3 — Application
Pick one AI you interact with daily — maybe your school's digital attendance system, a music app, or a map app. Name at least three non-AI parts of the system it lives inside.
Misconception Dhee watches for: Child lists only technical components (servers, internet) without recognising human actors and institutional rules as system parts.
Dhee turns this concept into a 15-minute spoken session — asking, listening, and probing — so your child builds the idea themselves.
Every AI model sits inside a sociotechnical system of people, data and rules. Why you can't judge AI in isolation. For Class 7.
The AI is the whole product — if the AI works, the system works.
Dhee opens with a question — for example: "When a food delivery app suggests a restaurant to you, do you think the AI is doing that job alone — or is something bigger happening behind the scenes?" — listens to your child's answer, then probes the reasoning behind it. The session ends when the child can apply the idea to a brand-new situation, not just recall it.
